Videographer and Illustrator for Developing Resources on Positive Parenting Practices

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), is a private, non-denominational, international development agency established in 1967. It seeks sustainable solutions to long-term problems of poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and ill health with special emphasis on the needs of rural communities in mountainous and other resource-poor regions, primarily in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Its main areas of focus are education, health, rural development, environment and strengthening civil society.

The Aga Khan Foundation (Pakistan) [AKF (P)] is seeking a high-caliber professional Videographer and an Illustrator to develop short videos and illustrations that showcase parents and caregivers engaging in positive interactions with their children. The goal is to provide accessible, visually appealing resources that can be shared via digital platforms to reach a wider audience. The project aims to promote positive parenting practices among caregivers of young children (ages 0-5) through different channels such as cable, posters, and WhatsApp. Through these channels, messages are disseminated in the form of videos or posters (with illustrations of positive interactions)

1. Background of the Project: 

AKDN-Vroom Strategic partnership to improve ECD outcomes in Pakistan is a project funded by the Bezos Family Foundation, USA tested in the Ghizer District of Pakistan. The first phase of this project promoted caregivers’ empowerment by providing contextually relevant ECD tips and tools via different accessible modalities. These resources supported caregivers to create enjoyable everyday moments for their children to grow, develop, and learn, from birth to five years. The key outcome of the project is improved caregiver practices that support positive early childhood development in Ghizer District, Pakistan.

2. Objectives of the Consultancy

The selected videographer and illustrator will be responsible for the following:

  • Producing short videos (90-120 seconds) demonstrating positive parent-child interactions. The videos will feature scenes of caregivers engaging in Vroom activities from with their children, with a focus on promoting healthy development and learning.
  • Create engaging illustrations that depict positive caregiver-child interactions. These illustrations will be designed for posters and dissemination via WhatsApp. The illustrations will range from simple scenes (just the caregiver and child) to more detailed backgrounds.

3. Scope of Work

The videographer & illustrator will:

  • Develop a creative concept and storyboard for each video, in collaboration with the project team.
  • Capture high-quality footage of parents/caregivers interacting positively with children aged 0-6 in various settings (e.g., home, outdoors).
  • Edit the footage to produce 6-8 videos, each 90-120 seconds long, with clear, engaging visuals.
  • Add background music (as needed) and insert text overlays at the end of each video to convey key messages.
  • Ensure the final videos are optimized for social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp.
  • Deliver the final edited videos in multiple formats (e.g., MP4, HD) as required.
  • Develop a series of 10-12 illustrations showing positive interactions between caregivers and children (e.g., reading, playing, comforting, etc.).

· Create two types of illustrations:

  • Simple scenes focus on the caregiver and child with minimal background details.
  • Detailed scenes that include contextual backgrounds (e.g., home, park).
  • Design illustrations to fit WhatsApp specifications, ensuring clarity and readability on mobile screens.
  • Integrate text messages provided by the project team into the illustrations, along with partner logos.
  • Deliver final illustrations in formats suitable for digital distribution (e.g., JPEG, PNG).

4. Methodology

  • The training should be interactive and participatory, using a mix of the following methods:
  • Presentations: To introduce key concepts of child safeguarding.
  • Group discussions: To explore real-life scenarios and challenges in safeguarding.
  • Case studies and role-plays: To practice responding to safeguarding concerns.
  • Practical exercises: To build hands-on skills in identifying and addressing safeguarding issues.

5. Deliverables 

  • The consultant(s) will be expected to deliver:
  • 6-8 short videos (90-120 seconds each) with text overlays.
  • Raw footage files and final edited versions in multiple formats.
  • A brief report summarizing the process, challenges, and recommendations.
  • 10-12 illustrations with text and partner logos integrated.
  • Illustrations delivered in high-resolution and WhatsApp-friendly formats.
  • Source files (e.g., PSD, AI) for future use.

6. Outputs and Suggested Timeframe

Videos:

a. Storyboarding and planning: 3 days

b. Filming: 7 days

c. Editing and finalization: 5 daysTotal Duration: Approximately 15 days.

Illustrations:

d. Concept sketches: 3 days

e. Illustration development: 10 days

f. Designing Material for Posters & Whatsapp: 5

g. Final revisions and delivery: 5 days total

Duration: Approximately 20 days.

8. Selection Criteria

This assignment is open to individuals/firms with the below-mentioned competencies;

  • Proven experience in videography, video editing, and content production.
  • Strong portfolio of work in illustration and graphic design.
  • Experience creating content for digital and social media platforms.
  • Understanding of the target audience (caregivers of young children) and culturally relevant design.
  • Ability to capture authentic interactions in real-life settings.
  • Strong editing skills with experience in creating short, impactful videos.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders.

9. Ethical Protocols:

  • The consultant(s) must adhere to the following ethical guidelines throughout the engagement:
  • All content must adhere to child safeguarding and ethical standards.
  • Informed consent must be obtained from all individuals appearing in the videos.
  • Illustrations and videos should be culturally sensitive and respectful.

10. Reporting Line

The consultant/firm will report to the AKF ECD Coordinator and will work closely with the project team to ensure that the content aligns with project objectives.

11. Application Process

  2. A proposal outlining their approach to the assignment, including a brief work plan.
  3. An updated portfolio showcasing relevant work.
  4. A financial proposal detailing costs, including rates and any additional expenses.
