SIF is implementing 4 integrated projects (Ramadan Food Hamper Distribution, Eid Gifts, Qurbani celebrations, and livelihood activities) for Afghan Refugees, TDPs, and host communities living in Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera, slums/suburbs through the development of income generation activities. The Livestock Veterinary doctor is the main focal person for area identification for Qurbani animal procurement, development of training manuals, livestock management training, and distribution of Qurbani meat within available budget and resources, etc.

Responsible for:

  • Identification and selection of potential areas for livestock farmers and breed of animals as per project objectives.

  • Assistance in the selection and procurement of animals as per weight, age, and physical condition, abreast with Islamic jurisprudence for sacrificial animals.

  • Periodic weight determination and inspection.

  • Development of training manuals for the relevant activities.

  • Prepare activity implementation plan and discuss the required resources to undertake the activity.

  • Vaccination and de-worming of animals as well as their treatment as per standards.

  • Assistance in formation and training of Farmers’ Committee on livestock management and development, alongside creating awareness about diseases and preventive measures, better fodder, and rearing practices to augment productivity.

  • Coordinate with the staff members for the required support to complete the assigned tasks.

  • Work closely with the line manager to undertake the assigned activities/tasks.

  • Coordinate with the line departments for the signing of MoU.

  • Ensure the required support from the line departments.

  • Ensure regular payments to the selected livestock farmers in close coordination with the Admin department for feeding/keeping of the procured animals.

  • Ensure timely feed/fodder for animals in coordination with the Logistic department before slaughtering on Eid days.

  • Conduct regular field visits for support and monitoring purposes.

  • Provide regular reporting and feedback to line management regarding field-level issues and updates.

  • Prepare and submit weekly progress reports on time.

  • Identify and report diseases in Qurbani animals and suggest relevant treatment solutions.

  • Provide assistance and support in the safe transportation of animals to the slaughterhouse as per the approved plan.

  • Identify and select butchers/slaughterers and form a butchers’ committee to ensure timely slaughtering on Eid days.

  • Participate in meetings with main stakeholders in the area.

  • Actively participate in staff meetings.

  • Formation of Livestock farmer’s committee.

  • Development of business plan for farmers.

  • Documentation and compilation of all relevant activities.

  • Perform any other assignment given by the supervisor according to the project need.

This list is not limited; the employee may be required to perform any other task necessary and compatible with its functions assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge/Skills/Behaviour:

  • Educational requirements (minimum):Degree/Diploma in Veterinary Medicine or related/Allied subject from HEC/Govt. accredited institute.

  • Experience requirements (minimum):5 years' experience, especially in rural cattle management and practices, prophylactic measures including seasonal vaccinations against diseases, treatment of sick animals, and ensuring animal health in the field. Also, perform deworming against ecto and endo parasites.

  • Fluent in Urdu, Pashto, English, and native languages.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and non-verbal communications, listening and negotiation skills, problem-solving and decision-making, assertiveness).

  • Good interpersonal, coordination, and presentation skills.

  • Culturally sensitive and respectful of diversity.

  • Able to deal with people at all levels with tact and diplomacy.

  • Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to write clear and detailed reports of visits within a given timescale.

  • Ability to organize personal work schedule on a daily basis with flexibility for multi-tasking.

  • Good team player and motivated to work in remote and uncertain environments respecting standard operating procedures as devised and instructed.
