Sales Tax Officer

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Sales Tax Officer to join our finance team in the pharmaceutical industry. The Sales Tax Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all sales tax regulations, overseeing tax filing processes, and advising the company on sales tax-related matters. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of sales tax laws, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Sales Tax Compliance:

Ensure the company is compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local sales tax laws and regulations.
Prepare and file timely sales tax returns for the business, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax laws.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant sales tax regulations, including changes to tax rates, exemptions, and any other pertinent legislation, especially those impacting the pharmaceutical industry.
Review and monitor sales transactions to ensure proper tax treatment and adherence to tax policies.

2. Tax Audits and Reports:

Assist with internal and external audits related to sales tax.
Respond to tax authority inquiries and provide necessary documentation and explanations as needed.
Maintain accurate and organized records of all sales tax filings and correspondence for audit purposes.

3. Tax Planning and Advisory:

Advise the company on tax-saving strategies and opportunities related to sales tax, focusing on areas such as exemptions, incentives, and inter-state transactions.
Provide guidance to internal departments (e.g., sales, accounting, procurement) on sales tax matters to ensure proper application in day-to-day business activities.
Assist with product taxability assessments, including managing exemptions and taxability of pharmaceutical products.

4. Tax Documentation and Reporting:

Prepare monthly and quarterly tax reports for internal stakeholders, highlighting key tax liabilities and any potential risks.
Ensure proper documentation for sales tax audits, including working closely with auditors to ensure smooth and efficient processes.
Stay updated on new sales tax regulations and requirements specific to the pharmaceutical industry.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with the finance, procurement, and sales teams to ensure that all sales tax-related processes are properly integrated across the company’s operations.
Participate in training and awareness programs to educate internal teams on sales tax processes and compliance requirements.

6. Continuous Improvement:

Identify and implement improvements in sales tax processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
Recommend system upgrades or changes for automating tax calculations and reporting where appropriate.
