Biofertilization potential of bacteria.

Fresh water resources are depleting in all over the world due to unequal distribution of water, overpopulation and growing industries. Consequently, wastewater has become a secondary choice for crop irrigation which accumulate toxic metals and ions in the soil. Biological methods can be used to detoxify these toxic agents as well as utilize useful metals for plant growth thus, mitigating the harm caused by wastewater irrigation. In current study, 19 soil and wastewater bacterial strains were isolated from wastewater irrigated fields at Rawal town, Islamabad to check their plant growth promoting traits. Phosphate, potassium, and zinc solubilization of isolated bacteria was assessed through plate assays. Moreover, antagonism of isolated bacteria against plant pathogenic fungus Macrophomina phaseolina was also tested. Out of 19 bacterial strains only few showed Solubilization capacity. S17 showed maximum potassium solubilization, mean of zone was 14.5 mm. Phosphate solubilization was shown by 3 bacterial strains among other colonies, maximum solubilization zone of 19.5 and mm was made by strain S6 and Zinc solubilization was shown by 6 bacterial strains, maximum solubilization zone of 13 mm was shown by S7 followed by S17 with a zone size of 10 mm. Among tested bacteria, isolate S4 and S17 from Rawal town were found to be the best solubilizers of Phosphate, potassium, and zinc and can be used as a source of biofertilizer to increase crop yield in waste water irrigated fields.
