Project Description: The Natural Disasters Consortium (NDC) comprising IOM, FAO, UNICEF, ACTED, HANDS and CONCERN WW, works across the country implementing preparedness, response and recovery interventions which include all kinds of disasters from 2015 to 2021 in Pakistan Whereas 2015 flood response in Sindh and Punjab, 2018 Drought and Heatwave response in 7 districts of Sindh, 2019 COVID-19 prevention awareness sessions and WASH intervention in Urban areas of 15 districts all over Pakistan. Through multi-sector activities, the NDC works towards building communities’ resilience to future shocks by enhancing household skills, spearheading community initiatives and empowering beneficiaries to reconstruct, As part of its resilience and recovery programming, the Consortium, through ACTED and HANDS, has supported 6,000 vulnerable households in disaster-prone areas of Jhang, Muzaffargarh, Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana, Qamber Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar and Ghotki), Shangla, Chitral. The multi-sector, integrated assistance provided in these communities includes Shelter, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and food security and livelihoods. Similar multi-sector interventions are being conducted for over 3,000 disaster-affected families in disaster-prone areas and in Shangla Heritage Foundation utilized vernacular building materials that directly assisted 200 households in the construction of earthquake-resilient shelters.

Researches in MYHP:
In this context of Shelter research, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the national lead shelter agency in Pakistan and with support from the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), commissioned Arup in 2016-17 to conduct an independent research study to evaluate the effectiveness of the agency implemented shelters in order to inform a consolidated set of shelter designs and guidance on how to select an appropriate design for future shelter programs. It is intended that this research should establish a scientific basis for evaluation and enable evidence based decision making. IOM technical team played a key role in this research,
