TOPSIS<br/>Introduction<br/>Topsis ( Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) is a multi-criteria decision analysis method, which was originally developed by Ching-Lai  Hwang 1 and KwangsunYoon 2 in 1981. This technique was further developed by Yoon in 1987. Hwang, Lai and Liu do the development in the technique in the 1993. It is an effective  multiple attribute decision-making method. TOPSIS advocates two artificial alternatives, that is, the ideal alternative, the one which has the best level for all attributes considered, and the negative ideal alternative, the one which has the worst attribute values. TOPSIS selects the alternative that is the closest to the ideal solution and farthest from negative ideal alternative.<br/>The TOPSIS method is considered to be an important research topic and has received great attention from the acedemic community . However, TOPSIS has its drawbacks because decision makers need to subjectively judge the weighting of the various criteria. TOPSIS is generally used to sort all alternatives in the final phase.<br/>The main points of the above discussion are as under<br/>TOPSIS was first developed by Hwang and Yoon in 1981.<br/>TOPSIS considers 2 sets of attributes (Criteria) i.e. benefit and cost criteria.<br/>In TOPSIS two artificial solutions ( Alternatives) are taken.<br/>Positive Ideal Solution the one which has the best level for all the attributes .<br/>Negative Ideal Solution the one which has the worst attribute values.<br/><br/>Principle of TOPSIS<br/>TOPSIS selects the alternative that is the closest to the ideal solution and farthest from Negative ideal solution.
