Quantity Surveyor

Delmec are an international telecommunications service provider, established in 1975 and based in Carlow, Ireland that has a number of operations internationally within Europe, Africa, and Asia. The core divisions of the business are in the manufacture and supply of telecoms towers and masts, the installation and construction of telecommunication base stations, and the structural audit, inspection, and design analysis of telecoms infrastructure, providing high quality services, internationally to mobile phone operators, tower portfolio managers and infrastructure developers in over 40 countries.

Role Description and Skills:

The Quantity Surveyor will play a major role in Delmec’s Shared Services Department from the initial receipt of an inquiry to issuing the formal quotation. They will log all inquiries, identify the requirements of each project, liaise with the relevant internal and external stakeholders, and compile a commercially robust tender for submission to our customers. With assistance from the Senior Quantity Surveyor, they will be required to understand the various products and services Delmec provides and maintain a database of typical costs to ensure a prompt quotation turnaround.

Our ideal candidate will be a cost-focused team player, genuinely interested in furthering their career within a quality performance-driven project structure. They should be highly numerate and organized, with great planning and negotiation skills. This position requires at least three years’ experience within the telecoms industry only.

Responsibilities:

The role will involve:

Assist tender and bid teams with bills of quantities and pricing and advise in the preparation on the financial elements of the tender
Identify issues within the tender documents and work requirements at tender stage
Negotiate subcontractors and suppliers’ prices and terms
Manage commercial and contractual aspects of relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Liaise with Project Managers to collate information on projects
Work package cost management, including forecasting
Estimate change/variations using various methods
Check project costs are correct and raise/resolve queries where necessary
Focus on maximizing the profitability of the designated projects
Advise on contractual matters - general and project level

Requirements:

Diploma or equivalent in Construction Economics, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline
3+ years’ experience in a Quantity Surveyor role or construction projects in telecoms industry
Proficiency in English language, both written and verbal
Proven ability to run complex and multiple bids
Experience and skills in logging and prioritising tasks
Understanding of pricing, cost, and profit
Ability to work on large-scale construction sites with sub-contractors essential
Strong understanding of the construction industry and working on-site
Working knowledge of contract language
Knowledge of the telecom industry essential
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
Highly motivated and hard-working individual who can work on their own or as part of a team
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
Familiar with remote working atmosphere
